PHILLY CHEATSTEAK SLIDERS…WIT!
Full disclosure; my Philly Cheatsteak Sliders are about as Philly as I am Cali. I take creative license in using Hormel® Slow Simmered Beef Roast Au Jus as a time-saving, yet utterly delicious, shortcut to sliced-steak and make my own take on Cheez Whiz by nuking down Daiya Cheddar Style Slices with a splash of almond milk. I know, right?! Game changer! Vegan meets carnivore? Is that even aloud?! And most of the cooking comes from the microwave! How very dare you! (Did I mention dramatic license too?) What this recipe lacks in authenticity, however, truly makes up in taste…wit or widdout fried onions.
PREP/COOK TIME: 15 Minutes
Makes 8 Sliders
INGREDIENTS
1 Medium – Yellow Onion, Peeled and Diced
1 Tbs – Vegetable Oil
½ Tsp – Kosher Salt
½ Tsp – Coarse Black Pepper
1 (15 Oz) Package – Hormel® Slow Simmered Beef Roast Au Jus
8 Slices – Daiya Cheddar Style Slices
1 Tbs – Unsweetened Almond Milk, or Water
1 Package (12 Count) - King's Hawaiian® Original Sweet Rolls
THE NITTY GRITTY
In a 10” non-stick pan, heat oil at medium high. Add diced onion; cook for about 5 minutes, stirring occasionally, till soft and golden. Remove from heat.
Meanwhile, prepare Hormel® Slow Simmered Beef Roast Au Jus as directed on package; do not remove film from tray when done.
In a microwavable bowl, melt cheddar slices at high for 30 seconds. Remove and stir melted edges into unmelted chunks. Add almond milk; microwave for another 30 seconds. Remove and whisk to blend; small lumps will occur. Microwave for another 30 seconds; giving a final whisk till smooth and velvety.
Cut rolls lengthwise before separating. Remove film from beef roast; pull pieces apart using two forks. Pile shredded beef on buns, with a generous dollop of melted ‘cheese’ and fried onions. Enjoy!
