FEAST OR FORK IT | ALL DAY BABY

In the lee of the ultra-hipster, ultra-gentrified ‘Williamsburg of the West,’ otherwise known as Silver Lake, is All Day Baby; an all-in-one boutique ‘diner,’ bar and bakery(ish) serving up modern-day takes on classic and familiar.

I went into this excited. High expectations, really; my timeline inundated with pics of the ADB Biscuit Sandwich and Smoked Beef and Cheese since this follow-up to Here’s Looking At You opened its doors back in late November of last year. A sticky menu, dirty napkin & fork (ironically) and a concha with a hair on it quelled any further reason to feel enthused.

The pilus pastry faux pas was put right in a somewhat timely manner; replaced with a new concha—not the same one with the protein filament gone and a thumb-print in its place. It was Thai Coffee Jam, BTW. I had the Smoked Beef and Cheese Sandwich. It did not remotely resemble the sandwich in the pic circulating on social media, but, nevertheless, was delicious.

Full disclosure: I studied this menu before coming and already intended to have my own IG moment with either the Big Chicken Biscuit or the Fried Chicken Sandwich, or both, being my prize-pic(s).

They were out of chicken breast.

For my aperitif, I had a Business Sweet Tea with House Mango Sweet Tea Mix, Topo Chico Mineral Water and Suntory Toki Whiskey; because, for a relaxing time… (NOTE: if you can’t finish that line, we have no business knowing each other.) It was fine. The lemon wedge used for my drink was obnoxious. The little umbrella was a charming appointment.

VERDICT: FORK IT – Despite a brilliant sandwich—and being comped for the concha—my concern with the overall cleanliness, or lack of, especially for a spot that recently opened, literally puts a bad taste in my mouth. So, no way baby.

ADDRESS: 3200 W Sunset Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90026

PRICE RANGE: $$

SHOULD YOU FEAST: Make reservations. Although our hostess was accommodating, and seated us by the bar—we did, however, have to ask her if we needed to make our order with the bartender when no one was acknowledging us, never mind coming to our table to take our order.
