MARINATE
FORKPLAY: Tucked away in the Melrose Hill section of East Hollywood is Marinate, Marinate; a health conscious, fast-food eatery for the slow-food movement offering gluten-free and vegan options. Must haves include Chipotle Pulled Pork, Pesto Chicken and Veggie Crack. The real crack, however, is the Sundried Tomato Penne…so good I want to swim in it.
SIGNATURE MOVE: The Kitchen Sink - A choice of protein (I went with the Sweet Hawaiian Chicken) piled on a bed of brown rice and red quinoa topped with Sundried Tomato Penne (Crack) and crispy fried onions, slathered with a generous ladling of soup of the day (It was an Italian Sausage kind of time); all wrapped snug in a whole wheat flour tortilla.
UPDATE: Marinate relocated its operations to the Pico Union area last year following a fire at its Melrose Ave store. Early this year, the eatery shut down briefly in compliance to the citywide shutdown mandated by LA County in response to COVID 19 before re-opening on May 15th; offering delivery and curbside pick-up. As of recently, following BLM protests, the current location is closed to the public till further notice – according to their Instagram account.
